Lately I've been writing some haikus. Or at least I hope these are haikus. Here are four:


jalan ke rumah
tempat balon udara
mendarat, pelik

road trip melodies
trying to chase moving train
you should've been here

the delicate lace
the inevitable stain
not careful enough

unicorns are real
and now, front row at front porch
godzillas' dance off

asa

di celah keluh kesah kau dan aku
jangan lupa sempatkan gelak
di antara detak detik yang mengantar kita berputar kembali
jangan pernah lupa di awal
kita juga anak-anak berlarian

A love letter for Peter

In the madness of a ticktocking crocodile
The commutes between second star and the Darlings' aisle
I sure do hope we can still steal some time
Roam the sea for an adventure, a kiss, and a rhyme
Play some pranks to Captain and Smee
We do believe in fairies, don't we?

mister pirate says "hi,
matey, kiss your girl goodbye
i'mma take 'er away
you better start yer pray"

mr pirate promises me
hidden treasures and adventures
he gets down on one knee
"you'll be happy," he assures

and as i come near
i see the pirate and not you
but well, lookie here
see beneath the goatie glue

out with the eye patch
wooden leg and the hook
when all is snatched
left a smile with a crook

beneath the cockatoo parrot
surely i will definitely say
that you are the pirate
who stole my heart away

the hopefuls are
sitting ducks
to weary hostility

damba

di antara lamunan indah itu
--kunang-kunang dan kemerlip
peri kecil dan tangga nada--

suara tembakan!
lagi! dan lagi! dan lagi! dan,
jangan takut, itu aku

akhirnya dengan berani
membunuh satu demi satu
monster, dan suara, dan hantu

mati suara demi suara
terkurung dalam kantong rahasia
yang kau kubur di peti bajak laut

lalu lolos yang mujur, dengan seringai
dinyanyikan, "satu yang kau rindu,
aku tahu, hanya kata itu tertutur"

damba yang terlupa

pulang

pulang selalu jadi masalah
pencarian panjang sebuah rumah
dan saat kau pulang sendiri
apakah itu bisa dibilang
bahwa kau telah pulang?

Sudahlah
Pulang
Makananmu sudah dingin

walk on

do you still have demons in your head?
tucked into the battlefield in your bed?
have you won the battle and lost the star?
have you tried carefully veiling the scar?

of when you accepted and said goodbye
of when you made the vow of no more cries
some felt nothing and felt so free
some bit the bullet and buried the key

but in the end, when daylight's gone
we smile, we stand up, and we walk on

*for those who aren't defeated by yesterdays

a happy ending

is a happy beginning
orchestrated with music
that makes your smile sing
and all your inside tick

and the beat of the drums
matches your heart, matches mine
and the fairies of sugar plums
they sparkle the stars align

hello mr. magpie, how is your wife
no one for sorrow, no ill-fated life
a near dragonfly and a distant aeroplane
they look the same, you are not insane


and a happy ending is a happy beginning
